Social 20-1 Annual Cultural Potluck

Social 20-1 had our annual cultural potluck in class on February 19th. Origins of nationalism and the influence of nationalism on regional, international and global relations can be infusioned by multiple perspectives. This allows students to develop understandings of nationalism and how nationalism contributes to the citizenship and identities of peoples in Canada. This yearly tradition of a potluck in Mrs. Shipton’s class is one way that we can expand our knowledge of this impact on Canadian identity. What we eat is a powerful symbol of who we are. Food is a hugely significant part of our culture and identity. It has many cultural, social and symbolic meanings.

We are currently studying the connection of language, geography, ancestral homeland, ethnic ties, and culture as our expressions of nationalism. By bringing in the different food items from our different cultures, we will have a better understanding of immigration in our community.
