The Barrhead Composite High School’s (BCHS) modernization project continues to make significant progress, with several key spaces scheduled to be ready for students and staff when the 2026-2027 school year begins.

Over the summer months, construction crews will complete work in the newly renovated junior high hallway, which is expected to be available for use by mid-August. Additional spaces anticipated to be completed by late August include the school’s junior high (indoor) washrooms, wellness coach offices, Student Family Advocate office, East Gym, and CTS Automotive Lab.

The school’s senior high CTS Woods/Construction Lab is also expected to be completed in time for the start of the new school year.

To prepare for these transitions, teachers in the current Grade 7 and 8 wing are packing classrooms and resources before the end of June. Throughout August, these classrooms will be relocated to the newly renovated junior high area. At the same time, teachers currently located in the centre hallway will move into the existing Grade 7 wing, where senior high courses will be delivered during the next school year.

Construction activity will continue throughout the summer as the next stage of the modernization project begins. Renovations to the Centre Gym are scheduled to start at the end of June and will include the installation of new mechanical equipment in the basement as well as an expansion of the gym space through the removal of the existing stage.

Following work on the Centre Gym, construction will continue on the West Gym, the centre hallway, and the future cafeteria area.

The Welding/Fabrication Lab renovation began earlier this month. Work in this space is expected to continue into the second semester of the 2026-2027 school year. As a result, Welding/Fabrication programming will not be offered during the upcoming school year.

Updated maps and classroom location information will be provided to BCHS families and posted on the BCHS Renovation Information webpage before the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

Our incredibly talented Cosmetology class recently faced one of their most unique and challenging assignments yet: the “No Hair” Competition. Instead of relying on flowing locks, curls, or intricate braids, our students had to rely entirely on structure, makeup, avant-garde facial art, and pure imagination to bring their mannequins to life.
