Barrhead, AB – April 7, 2025 – Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS) is proud to celebrate the achievements of three talented Automotive Technology students who competed in the 2025 Regional Skills Competition held on April 5th. Savannah Grieg, Mike Knol, and Riley Manz showcased their mechanical prowess and dedication, earning well-deserved recognition for their hard work and skills in the competitive field of automotive technology.

This year marked Savannah Grieg’s debut in the competition, and despite it being her first time participating, she impressed judges with her technical skills and ability to troubleshoot automotive challenges. Although she did not place, her performance was commendable, and her efforts speak to her potential in this demanding field. Riley Manz and Mike Knol returned to the competition for their second year, and their performances were nothing short of exceptional. Riley secured 3rd place, while Mike placed 4th, both earning spots in the upcoming Provincial Skills Competition at the Edmonton Expo Centre on May 7th and 8th. This marks a significant accomplishment for both students, especially considering the fierce competition they faced. Their success at the regional level is a testament to their dedication, experience, and the solid foundation they have built over the years in BCHS’s automotive program.

The automotive technology program at BCHS plays a crucial role in equipping students with the hands-on skills necessary for success in the automotive industry. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students like Savannah, Mike, and Riley are able to refine their mechanical knowledge and gain real-world experience working with tools, diagnostics, and vehicle systems. The program provides a dynamic learning environment that allows students to develop confidence and proficiency in automotive repair, maintenance, and technology.

“We’re extremely proud of Savannah, Mike, and Riley for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to becoming strong competitors,” said Mr. Siemens, BCHS automotive instructor. “They’ve put in countless hours honing their skills, and it’s wonderful to see their efforts pay off. It’s an exciting time for them as they move on to the provincial competition, and we know they’ll continue to represent BCHS with pride.”

The entire school community is thrilled to support Mike, and Riley as they prepare for the provincial competition in Edmonton. Their success is a reminder of the importance of hands-on learning and the value of pursuing excellence in technical fields. We look forward to seeing what these talented students will achieve in the future, and we are confident that their passion for automotive technology will continue to drive them toward success.
