STUDENT RECOGNITION
Thank you for joining us on Friday, September 29 to recognize our student’s achievements from the 2016-2017 school year. Congratulations to all students who received awards, bursaries and scholarships. Thank you to the community for supporting and acknowledging the accomplishments of our students.
MONTHLY REPORTING
BCHS teachers are committed to updating their Powerschool Gradebooks monthly in order to reflect student learning and achievement. Teachers may also be contacting parents via e-mail or telephone. As well, there are formal parent/teacher interview dates scheduled during the school year but meetings with your child’s teachers may be scheduled at other times as well. Please call the school or e-mail the teacher to schedule meetings as needed.
GRAD PHOTOS
Grad photos began on October 2. If you are planning to graduate, you should have received an appointment card from your student photographer. Visit www.bchscomtech.ca for our information pamphlet, examples of our work and prices. BCHS is the only high school in Alberta that does not have a photography company take the grad photos. You will be pleasantly surprised with what our Portrait Photography class is able to provide. Please contact Mr. Tyrrell in the Com Tech lab if you have any questions.
MAGAZINE CAMPAIGN FUNDRAISER
The annual Magazine Campaign Fundraiser “kick off” will be on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, for our jr. high students. Funds raised will be used to support student activities at the school. Renew your favourite subscriptions, order new titles, or give magazine subscriptions as gifts. Our Jr. High students will be coming around with catalogues and order forms, they will also have access to online sales. Make cheques payable to “Barrhead Composite High School”. You can order online at www.qsp.ca by using our school group number “3693074”. All orders placed online will receive “double points” for the student. Collection days will be October 10th, 17th, and 24th in the student’s English class.
SPC CARDS
Leadership will also continue to sell SPC Cards. USE PROMO CODE: 37055 when you purchase your SPC card online at www.SPCCard.ca or check out the SPC app. We also have physical cards available in the school for $10. Students can get them from Mrs. Carr (Room 16).
SCHOOL PHOTO RETAKES
School photo retakes will take place on Wednesday, October 11. Any students who missed the photo day are to have their picture taken. Students wishing to have a retake must return their picture package to the photographer. Brochures listing package information and prices are available in the office. STUDENTS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING
On October 12 SADD will be participating in National Teen Driver Safety Week. At lunchtime that day there will be activities in the center gym where students will have an opportunity to try various activities using the Impaired Vision goggles and enter to win some prizes.
PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday, October 18 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Interviews will be scheduled in 10 minute intervals for each teacher. To schedule your interviews, please visit the school website at barrheadcomposite.public.pembinahills.ca. Under the “Parents” tab you will find “School Appointments” where you can register and select appointment times that suit your schedule. If you are unable to access the Internet or are having difficulty with the online system, please call the school for assistance.
EARLY DISMISSAL
The October early dismissal day will be on Wednesday, October 25. Classes will dismiss at 2:19 pm.
BAND NOTES
Thank you to everyone who supported our band chocolate sales. Your support will make many things possible for our music students. The BCHS Senior Band is honored that they will be playing at the community Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11. Thank you to our Legion for inviting us to be a part of this special day.
SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING
Our school council meeting will be held on Monday, October 30 at 7:00 pm in the BCHS Library. Take this opportunity to meet the principal, Mr. Kaplan, and our school board trustee, Mrs. J. Lefebvre. Please come out to hear what is happening in our school, ask questions and have the opportunity to provide input on school decisions. This month we will be discussing ways to increase parent involvement in the school. See you on October 30!
