The Silent Majority Speaks...

Jun 7

I am going to try to add some blog moments from my rants that surface every once in a while. The first is from the infamous Bill 44 debate from last week.

Culture Minister Lindsay Blackett defended the governments passing of Bill 44 by saying that he had the support of the silent majority of Albertans. Now, if I went around claiming that I heard voices and then acted on them I would either be called crazy or a prophet. It is a perfect cover...it marginalizes the voices of the people who vocally criticized the government while absolving himself from the blame by scapegoating the actions on an imaginary group of friends.

As I said in class, I am perfectly willing to work within the new rules of the legislation. And I am not being partial to any political party. But all I ask for is a bit of integrity in politics. Be responsible for your action...stand up and defend them...but don't make excuses of imaginary friends and silent majorities. All it does is make you look Machiavellian...or just plain nuts.
